【 Esencia Flamenca 】

        Flamenco is an art form that grows beyond its vital cultural roots and folklore. It originated in Andalusia (southern Spain) and is most concentrated in the provinces of Cádiz and Seville, which include Jeréz de la Frontera, Cádiz, Lebrija, Utrera, Moron, and the port towns, ‘los puertos’. It is comprised of cante (song), toque (guitar) and baile (dance). The cante and compás (rhythm cycles) are the backbones of the art form and provide the primary inspiration to its interpreters. Flamenco possesses its roots in feeling at its rawest.

Professional Flamenco Center in Taiwan

        Esencia Flamenca is Taiwan's and Asia-Pacific's first professional flamenco center in the sense that all our instructors are working professionals in Spain. We have a large and airy basement studio situated in central Taipei－just a short flight away from Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore. Our goal is to impart the art of flamenco and to reach a class quality and level comparable to learning in Spain. General classes of a professional training level are provided all year around as we are committed to the students on-going progress. Opportunities to perform starting from 2006, and short intense workshops with top flamenco artists are also available.

Streaming Classes

        Our curriculum caters for all levels and for students with different motivations; just for fun routines and rhythms, absolute beginners, specialized techniques, cante(song) recognition and performance preparation, intense on-going technique training, and choreography for the serious student or aspiring professional. Classes are streamed for the students best progress and accompanied by professional guitar and cante(song) for significant periods of the year.

        Our classes are streamed according to technical level and individual goals and for the mutual benefit of all students. This also avoids severe multi-level teaching stress on the instructor. Please consult the instructor for your placement if unsure, or if you need to change class after a week or two - notify the secretary and instructor. The instructor may guide or advise you on your current placement for your best interest and progress. Each instructor offers his/her own special course. We uniquely offer assistant help in all lower level classes.

Our Goals

       In all courses, compass(rhythm cycles) will be a strongly emphasized. As a student proceeds technique training will be inevitable along with a growing recognition and understanding of dancing with the cante (flamenco song).

        Our general emphasis is on technique training, including key structural knowledge.Esencia defines its approach as one that encourages quality over quantity when it comes to learning flamenco. We encourage Asian-Pacific flamenco students to embrace the essence of flamenco and to express themselves dancing with feeling, with power, and ultimately with the freedom of improvisation.

            circumstances observation time is generally limited to 10 minutes
